Methodology

How the Research Score and stock screener work.

Who Built This, and Why

Built and maintained by a solo developer with a software engineering background and over a decade of hands-on, multi-asset class investing experience -- equities, mutual funds, derivatives, commodities, and digital assets, across Indian and global markets.

Our Vision

I don't want anyone to lose money following bad information. That's why StockSage Pro never recommends buying or selling any specific stock -- it shows the data and the reasoning behind a score; the decision is always yours.

Investment Philosophy

I believe in long-term investing over short-term trading, and I don't consider trading a safe approach for most people. This is a personal view formed from years of experience, not a rule this platform enforces on you.

Why This Platform Exists

The Research Score methodology reflects the long-term, fundamentals-first approach I've used myself for years. I built this platform so other Indian investors could use the same framework, make more informed decisions, and -- in a small way -- contribute to India's growing investor base.

The Research Score

Every stock on StockSage Pro is assigned a Research Score from 0 to 100 -- a weighted composite of five components, each itself scored 0-100 from underlying financial and market data:

Technical Charts

Every stock page also includes a full technical chart -- moving averages (SMA20/50/200) inline, plus a dedicated chart view with RSI, MACD, and ADX. These are separate from the Research Score: StockSage Pro is built around long-term, fundamentals-first research, so technical indicators are offered as an additional data view, not folded into the score and never presented as a buy/sell signal.

Quality

30%

Return on Equity (ROE), debt-to-equity ratio, operating cash flow, and profit consistency over recent years.

Growth

25%

Revenue/profit CAGR, EPS growth, and the consistency of that growth over time.

Valuation

20%

PE ratio, PB ratio, EV/EBITDA, and dividend yield -- lower multiples generally score higher.

Risk

15%

Debt levels, profit volatility, cash flow risk, and revenue stability.

News

10%

Sentiment of recent news coverage about the company, converted to a 0-100 scale.

The Stock Screener

The screener offers 60+ filters across valuation, quality, growth, risk, technical indicators, ownership (FII/DII/promoter holding), price, and market capitalization -- allowing precise, multi-factor screening across the full universe of covered Indian stocks. It also includes 40+ prebuilt strategies -- ready-to-run screens for common approaches (e.g. quality compounders, high dividend yield, low-debt value picks) for anyone who prefers a starting point over building filters from scratch.

Portfolio Tools

Beyond individual stock research, StockSage Pro includes portfolio tracking (holdings, entry dates, LTCG/STCG status, sector and market-cap allocation), multiple watchlists, custom price alerts, and Portfolio Insight -- a dedicated analytics view with a portfolio health score, allocation breakdowns, and downloadable PDF reports.

Data Freshness

Stock prices, financial ratios, and Research Scores are updated daily after market close using the latest available data.

Not Investment Advice

The Research Score and all data on StockSage Pro are provided for research and informational purposes only. They do not constitute personalized investment advice. Always do your own due diligence or consult a qualified financial advisor before making investment decisions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the StockSage Pro Research Score calculated?

The Research Score (0-100) is a weighted composite of five components: Quality (30%), Growth (25%), Valuation (20%), Risk (15%), and News Sentiment (10%). Each component is itself scored 0-100 from several underlying financial and market factors, then combined using these weights to produce the final score.

What does the Quality score measure?

Quality (30% of the final score) measures financial soundness: Return on Equity (ROE), debt-to-equity ratio, operating cash flow, and consistency of profits over recent years. Companies with high, stable returns and low debt score higher.

What does the Growth score measure?

Growth (25% of the final score) measures how fast a company is expanding: revenue/profit CAGR, EPS growth, and the consistency of that growth over time.

What does the Valuation score measure?

Valuation (20% of the final score) measures how cheap or expensive a stock is relative to its fundamentals: PE ratio, PB ratio, EV/EBITDA, and dividend yield. Lower valuation multiples generally score higher, reflecting a value-investing lean.

What does the Risk score measure?

Risk (15% of the final score) measures financial stability: debt levels, profit volatility, cash flow risk, and revenue stability. Companies with more stable, predictable financials score higher (lower risk).

What does the News score measure?

News (10% of the final score) reflects sentiment in recent news coverage about the company, converted to a 0-100 scale. It has the smallest weight since news sentiment is more short-term and less fundamental than the other four factors.

How many filters does the StockSage Pro stock screener have?

The screener offers 60+ filters spanning valuation, quality, growth, risk, technical indicators, ownership (FII/DII/promoter holding), price, and market capitalization -- allowing precise, multi-factor stock screening across the full universe of covered Indian stocks.

How often is the data updated?

Stock prices, ratios, and Research Scores are updated daily after market close using the latest available financial and market data.

Is the Research Score investment advice?

No. The Research Score and all data on StockSage Pro are for research and informational purposes only, not personalized investment advice. Always do your own due diligence or consult a qualified financial advisor before investing.
